The Bluegrass Thoroughbreds originated in Lexington, KY, but now reside in Charleston, Arkansas. James and Marcie Malicote formed the band in 1974, naming the band after thoroughbred horses, as James was a thoroughbred horse trainer and Marcie was a bookkeeper for the old Man O War farm in Lexington, KY. The Bluegrass Thoroughbreds play traditional bluegrass and gospel music, and have performed throughout the U.S. and Canada at festivals, fairs, churches, and theme parks such as Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO, Whitewater in Atlanta, GA, and Beach Bend Park in Bowling Green, KY. The Band was featured on the show, You Can Be a Star in the 1980's. The Bluegrass Thoroughbreds include James Malicote- lead guitar, fiddle, vocals, Marcie Malicote, upright bass, rhythm guitar, vocals, Justin Newhart- mandolin, vocals, and Marcie K. Joey and Dave are father and son from Ohio that recently moved to Arkansas bringing some of the best guitarist skills found in our state. Chip and Andrew are father and son in law they are very musically talented and been in the music industry for many years here in Arkansas. By bringing them all together it formed this family based band with many years of music experience and talent. This band has a very large repertoire of music that they welcome request from the audience. Usually they play Little Rock and Hot Springs but for our fair they will bringing all that great talent to our little small town. Don’t miss out getting to hear some of the best classic rock/country music from the 60's 70's and 80's to also the current hits now.
The Hill Street Blues band was formed in 2021 and features musicians and vocalists with a combined 200 years of musical expertise. Although your first thought could be we are a “blues band”, we are indeed one of the most genre diverse bands in Arkansas. We do have some blues riffs and backgrounds, but we also entertain with classic rock, southern rock, classic country, modern country, power ballads of the 80’s and contemporary Christian. Although we are paid entertainers, we have donated over 50 shows for benefits geared to raising money for communities and our people in their time of need. We have a passion for people and that’s why we were formed, and that’s what continues to drive us.
HSB is led up front by Kelly Hill who has traveled across the country performing before settling in the river valley. Her range and power are second to none making HSB more versatile than any band around. Backing her up with the keys and vocals is the legendary Martha Lynn Burks who has taught more about music than we will ever know. Also, on the vocals and rhythm is Chris Geroge with his lovely wife Cathy on background vocals. Jon Nathan George continued his Uncle Jasper Geroge’s musical legacy on the bass and does some lead and background vocals as well. You won’t find a more “electrifying” lead guitarist anywhere than Mr. David Waterson. With a background in rock, you will hear anything from powerful blues scales to Eddie VanHalen style tapped harmonics and styles ranging from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Jimi Hendrix. Last but not least, we call him the Chief, Rick Padgett, on the Tama Drums with powerful grooves and fills from classic country subtle styles to heart pounding, earth shaking, stick breaking rock and roll.
Hill Street Blues is based in west-central Arkansas and continues a full annual schedule with bookings ranging from Christmas parties, Church revivals, birthday celebrations, community events and many benefits dear to our hearts. If you want some get on the dance floor grooves, you will not be disappointed!
